Its early morning after your first show and you are awoke by a gentle tapping upon the door of the carriage loaned to you for the night and through the tiny window you can see Madame Charlotte. Once you finaly come out, she beckons for you to follow and walks away without a sound.
As you follow close behind, all around you watch the circus come down. You feel the woosh of the Big Tent as it drops, you see animals being loading into their traveling cart or being chased by their handler because they got away, with oxen being attached to wagons and carriages while horses are getting fitted with packs, things being loaded and then unloaded when something wasn’t put in just right, people looking for misplaced belongings, and even some children running amok because their parents a currently to busy to stop them. Soon, you leave the chaos behind and find yourself in small clearing with a table and a few chairs set up. Sitting (or should I say dozing?) in one of the chairs is a rather wrinkled old man with a shocking amount of whit hair. Madame Charlotte clears her throat and jumps he to his feet with a start.
She then turns and looks at you with a smile, and says in her whiskey-laced voice, ‘Welcome to the circus, to a place that is home to us all. The carriage in which you slept is now your. The horse attached will be yours to care for. Today you will learn about the life we all live and the life you soon will be living. Now, this is Micky Rourke and he will be your guide.’ She sends a flourish his way and he grins a toothless grin and bows. ‘Oh, and this is yours. Payment for first show and all.’ and tosses you a jiggling bag of coin. ‘Now I’ll leave you to your devices. Enjoy!’ and saunters off, herding the children gone a mok together and leading them away.
